Description

Dies ist der Zapfen des Mammutbaums Sequoia reichenbachii (GEINITZ) HEER, der vom Festland ins Meer transportiert wurde.

Mammutbäume waren im Mesozoikum weit verbreitet, doch es gibt auch noch einen heutigen Vertreter dieser Gattung, den Küstenmammutbaum (Sequoia sempervirens).

Alter: ca. 75 Mio. Jahre, unteres Ober-Campanium, Oberkreide
Fundort: Steinbruch nördlich von Legden bei Coesfeld, Kreis Coesfeld
