Description

Dieses detailreich erhaltene Fossil ist eine Walzenschnecke der Art Volutilithes subsemiplicata (D’ORBIGNY).

Die Tiere lebten in 200 - 600 m Tiefe als Lauerjäger in Weichboden vergraben. Vor allem andere Schnecken waren die Beute.

Der Fund stammt aus dem Baumberge-Sandstein; die Einbettung und Konservierung fand also durch Trübeströme statt.

Alter: ca. 71 Mio. Jahre, Coesfeld-Schichten, ob. Campanium, Oberkreide
Fundort: Darup, Kr. Coesfeld/Münsterland
