Fotografie von einer Gruppe Soldaten im Schützengraben. Vorne rechts im Bild der Unnaer Julius Hövel. Monochrome Aufnahme, Hochformat. Nicht formatfüllender Abzug auf mattem Fotopapier mit Postkartenaufdruck auf der Rückseite.

Auf der Rückseite handschriftlich mit Bleistift (modern ergänzte?) Widmung bzw. Spruch: "Lieber Julius, laß Dir's sagen, / Was hilft da denn alles Klagen? / Nur ein Blick auf dieses Bild / stimmt Dich heiter, stimmt Dich mild. / I. [...] Julius Hövel / Die Kameraden der 1/R69". Darunter in anderer Schrift Angabe zum Motiv "Aufnahme am 15/4. 16, / 1. Lt. H”vel. / 2. " B”ttner. / 3. " Klüser.".
